A WA KU LEH: Little People's Trading Post

Elders, artisans, local entrepreneurs and cultural experts join Native American youth in workshops to help them learn the principles of entrepreneurship and turn their ideas into products based on Crow Indian tradition and story. Products are sold at the student-run shop, and profits go into student bank accounts.

A WA KU LEH
  • Encourages creativity and innovation in youth, using what is readily available in the community.
  • Teaches the principles of entrepreneurship and other basic business and internet skills as part of a real process youth can understand.
  • Sets up a real-world way to address personal money management issues and long-term goalsetting.
  • Encourages youth to know and value the traditional stories that are the basis of Crow culture and involves them with elders who are the keepers of that oral knowledge.
Who are the A WA KU LEH? The A WA KU LEH are the "little people" of the Crow tradition, sacred beings that live in the Pryor mountains. They stand 2 feet tall and are strong, resourceful and hardworking. If you are blessed enough to see one, you will have good luck for a long time.
